Holy Eucharist is the principal worship service of the Episcopal
Church on Sunday (the Lord's day). We celebrate the Eucharist every Sunday
at 10:30 a.m. The service follows Rite II from
the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. On some occasions, Rite I (in more
"traditional" language) may be used. The 10:30 worship service includes organ
music, choir, congregational singing and occasionally children’s singing and
guest instrumentalists. Special Services are offered throughout the year.
Current Worship Ministries at Christ Church Chalice Bearers – Assists the priest during communion by administering
the chalice (cup of wine). Chalice Bearers are licensed by the Bishop at the
request of the rector.
Lector/Intercessor – Reads the Old or New Testament Lessons or leads the
Prayers of the People during worship.
Lay Eucharistic Minister – A parishioner who has received specialized
training and who takes the consecrated elements from the Sunday celebration to
those who were unable to attend church. In some parishes this person is referred
to as a "Lay Eucharistic Visitor." Lay Eucharistic Visitors are licensed by the
Bishop at the request of the rector.
Greeters/Ushers – Welcomes worshipers as they enter the nave, assists
visitors and newcomers, distributes bulletins, assists with seating, collects
the offering, and assists parishioners with getting to and from the communion
rail. Teams are scheduled through the parish office. Both adults and teenagers
are welcome to volunteer.
The "Greening" of the church - Christmas 2007 Oblationers - Present the offerings of bread and wine at the beginning
of the offertory during Holy Eucharist.
Acolyte – Serving as an acolyte is an ancient responsibility dating back
to the earliest days of the church. All members who are age 7 to 107 are
eligible to serve. Acolytes assist by lighting the altar candles, carrying the
processional crosses, torches, banners, and assisting the priest throughout the
service.
Altar Guild – Guild Members prepare the church for services held in the
church, including regularly scheduled worship, and weddings and funerals. They
maintain all the altar metal-ware, linens, candles, and flowers. Two or three
people work together as a team. Although Guild members traditionally were women,
male Altar Guild members are more than welcome.
The work and play of a parish community is not performed during
Sunday worship, but in the groups which meet throughout the week for service and
for fellowship.
Episcopal Church Women (ECW) – All women of the parish are considered
members of this group, which meets for service, study, and fellowship. Meetings with programs and
study are held each month (usually the first Tuesday), and various fund
raisers and service activities are spaced throughout the year.
The Annual "Mother/Daughter/Friends" Banquet 2008
Country
Fair Committee - Those responsible for making the annual Christ Church
Country Fair happen. The fair is always on the Saturday following our
annual homecoming (which is the second Sunday of September). Parish Life
- Those folks that help to make fellowship dinners, receptions, and
"get-togethers" happen.
